DVD copier software is everywhere you look.  You can try many different software for free online, or purchase it right off the shelf at a store.  DVD copier software rips digital information off of the DVD, and transfers it to another medium, such as a hard drive, or blank DVD or CD.

The fact of the matter is, DVD ripping software allows you to make a perfect copy of a movie or game at virtually no cost -- only the cost of the blank DVD, and the time it takes to make a copy.  Since this is the case, it has created a lot of animosity from the movie industry.

Of course, if you are using DVD copier software to make copies which you plan on selling, or distributing to others, then naturally it is an illegal use of the software.

All you need to make a backup for your DVD is a DVD player on your computer, the right DVD ripping software, and the ability to burn a backup back onto a blank DVD.  Make sure you have the necessary software and hardware to do that.  There are a variety of different programs that will help you rip DVDs, and burn them onto blank DVDs.

The fact of the matter is that no matter how much the entertainment industry hates DVD copier software, it is legal, provided it is for your own personal use, as a backup to a copy you already own.  Keep this in mind when looking for different ripping software to help you make your own backup copies.
